Everyball Tennis and Chiltern Institute of Learning Development and Sport (CHILDS) host Sergio Casal Tennis Workshop
16th June 2015
On Friday 5th June Everyball Tennis (Halton UK) and the Chiltern Institute of Learning Development and Sport (CHILDS) were thrilled to host Sergio Casal and Daniel Sorribas for a coaches workshop at Halton Tennis Centre.
Sergio and Daniel presented the Sanchez-Casal 'system' to over 25 coaches and a number of our performance juniors who stepped up to demonstrate their drills.
Amongst many things a few key points that stood out:
- repetition and volume to develop 'muscle memory'
- clarity of shot 'intention' relating to zones of play
- developing mentally tough and resilient players
It was great to share ideas, practice new ones, and host one of the top academies in world tennis at the moment. We are particularly excited to see how we might develop an ongoing relationship with Sanchez-Casal over the next months, and must thank our own Spanish guru in Guti for all the work he has done so far on this project.

The doubles matches were equally straight forward for the Halton team of Laura/Jemima and Lereesa/Celia Cornforth.
Halton Men had a very tight match against Maidenhead when the team of Alan Bevan, Cameron Malik, Ed Taylor and Alex Barnes were forced to a tiebreak shoot-out to get a result after the match stood as a draw 3-3 after the singles and doubles matches. Tournament Heralds Beginning of Summer Season at Halton
14th April 2015
Halton members were blessed with a lovely sunny day for the Open Season tournament and there was a good turnout of players. Having battled against the wind and sun for a couple of hours there was a welcome break for coffee and cake. At the end of six rounds the players with the highest scores went through to a final, with Mark Trojacek and Mary O'Sullivan just having the edge to beat Steve Whant and Janis O'Connor in a very well-matched match. All the players were treated to a glass of Pimms to round off the day.

Girls Tennis at Halton
13th March 2015
220 girls from Bucks, the majority from Halton, aged between 5 and 18 years old have participated in four Bucks fun sessions over the last four months. A girl’s only mini red match play took place last month and the feedback from the girls and parents was very positive. Female coaches and volunteers are invited to bring along their players to the fun sessions and competitive events, and it is hoped that the sessions will help to create a wide network of female coaches and players. Coming up soon mini red, orange and green girls only match plays.
The Buckinghamshire Girls Group was started up by Jemima King with the support of her fellow everyball female coaches and is being supported by Bucks LTA is an exciting new initiative that has been set up to encourage more girls to participate and compete in tennis. Do you know the ratio for boys and girls playing tennis? 4:1!! 40% of girls drop out of sport by the age of 18. In recent years, nowhere near enough girls have been taking up the sport and Jemima and her colleagues are passionate about reversing this trend.
In the last fun session we had 76 girls attending, amazing to see so many girls training with smiles on their faces and being active.
